Jim C. Hines has been attending ConFusion for almost as long as he’s been writing. It’s one of his favorite cons, at least in the blizzard-free years.
While he has written serious fiction on occasion, Jim is best known for more humorous fare, beginning with the Goblin Quest trilogy about a nearsighted goblin runt and his pet fire-spider. He’s also the author of the Princessseries of action-packed fairy tale retellings, the Magic ex Libris books about a magic-wielding librarian from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and the Janitors of the Post-Apocalypse trilogy.
In the middle of all that, he also wrote Blood of Heroes, a tie-in novel for the Fable: Legends video game. But then the video game got cancelled. It was very sad, and the book didn’t get much promotion or attention, but the most important thing is he got paid in advance.
Jim focuses mostly on novels these days, but he still takes time to do a little short fiction. His stories have appeared in more than fifty magazines and anthologies. He’s also the editor of Invisible, Invisible 2, and Invisible 3 (with Mary Anne Mohanraj), collections of personal essays about the importance and power of representation in SF/F.
In his free time (ha!), he dabbles in photography, practices Sanchin-Ryu karate, and rolls far too many natural 1s in D&D and Pathfinder.
